The message strangers will see first

The front carries your child’s photo and name, with this fixed message (We keep this the same on every card because it tells people exactly what they need to know): “I have Non-Verbal Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). This means I may be unable to speak or use words to communicate pain, fear, or needs. In an emergency I may not respond. I may be extremely sensitive to loud noises, bright lights, and physical touch. Please be kind and patient with me!”

The back – where you make it completely personal

On the back there is room for two emergency contacts and a few lines headed “My Interests:” – the magic words that help a stranger connect with your child when speech isn’t an option. Things like “Talk to me about dinosaurs” or “I love Lego and broccoli” can turn panic into calm in seconds.
